Keweenaw Trails ("the App") is operated by A Superior Transportation and Logistics Company LLC ("we," "us"), Hancock, Michigan. This policy explains what the App collects and why. The App is free to riders.
With your permission, the App uses your device's precise location, including in the background while you are on the trail, to: show your position on the map, give trail directions, place your coordinates on the SOS screen, detect a crash or a prolonged lack of movement, and (if you choose to share) show your position to other riders for collision awareness. You can turn location off at any time in iOS Settings; core map and safety features will be limited without it.
If you enable sharing, the App periodically sends your position, heading, and speed to our server so nearby riders can see one another as anonymous colored arrows. It also records the path you travel and uploads it to help build a community trail map that fills gaps in public data. Shared and recorded location is anonymous — it is tied only to a random device identifier, not your name. You control sharing in Settings, and you can mark a path "Private" when prompted so it is not recorded.
If you enable automatic SOS and a crash or prolonged non-movement is detected (and you do not cancel the on-screen countdown), the App sends your location to our dispatch so help can be directed to you. You may also trigger SOS manually. Emergency contacts you add are stored on your device.
Ratings you submit for points of interest, and trail-condition reports you make, are stored on our server tied to a random device identifier, and shown to other riders in aggregate.
Businesses that purchase a listing provide business contact and licensing details and pay through Square. Payment card data is handled entirely by Square and is never seen or stored by us. We store the business listing information you provide.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. We do not build advertising profiles of riders. Location data is used to operate the features above, not to track individuals.
Live position updates expire within minutes. Crowdsourced trail traces and ratings are retained to keep the map useful. You can request deletion of data associated with your device by contacting us.
The App is intended for riders and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Data is stored on our own servers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect it.
